The signal spans multiple sectors
Engineering ranked behind Sales in total newly observed postings, but its activity was less dependent on a single employer. The leading contributors included semiconductor, aerospace and defense, and industrial manufacturing companies. That distribution makes this a broader signal than a spike produced by one company’s posting cycle.
Five employers drove the category
RTX led with 267 newly observed engineering postings. AMD followed with 115, Northrop Grumman with 100, Micron Technology with 86, and Eaton with 78.
Semiconductor employers showed job opening growth
AMD recorded the largest net openings increase among comparable companies at +93, with 1,153 active postings in the snapshot. Micron increased by +47 and had 2,746 active postings. Engineering was the leading role category for both companies.
Austin accounted for 49 newly observed AMD postings, while Santa Clara also appeared prominently in semiconductor hiring activity. These are employer-level observations, not a claim that every engineering market in those regions is expanding.
A mixed picture beyond the leaders
Strong category demand did not mean every engineering-heavy employer expanded. Boeing’s observed job openings declined by 49, and Northrop Grumman declined by 34 despite contributing 100 newly observed engineering postings. New postings and total active openings can move in different directions when older postings leave the observed set.
How to read these numbers
“Newly observed” means a posting appeared in the current snapshot but not the comparison snapshot. Net Openings change measures the difference in observed active job openings. It does not measure completed hires, and a posting that disappears may have been filled, closed, replaced, or removed for another reason.
